Chapter 25 - THE LAST PAYMENT

During estate administration, Grace received one final notice from Milena’s lawyers.
Not a payment.
A release.
Years earlier, part of Grace’s relocation support had been structured as a forgivable personal loan for housing deposit purposes.
Balance:
$22,000.
Milena’s will directed it forgiven.
Grace laughed.
“I forgot this existed.”
“So did I.”
The tax reporting was handled.
No symbolism required.
Then Luke asked:
“Was Grandma buying forgiveness?”
Grace said:
“No. She was cleaning up paperwork.”
