Chapter 19 - THE WORN SNEAKERS

Luke kept the worn sneakers from that Thanksgiving until he outgrew them.

Grace wanted to throw them away.

He objected.

Why?

“Grandma food shoes.”

Children again.

Eventually one sneaker became part of a preschool art project involving paint, feathers, and glue.

The other disappeared.

No trauma archive.

Good.

Years later, Luke barely remembered the plate.

His strongest memory was:

“Big table.”

Then:

“Angelo face.”

Not Dad yet.

Me as picture person.

I had spent years imagining the moment as foundational.
